What Does Wind and Earthquake Insurance Cover?
It’s best to split these into two different categories to explain what they each cover. Let’s start with wind insurance.
Wind Insurance Coverage
Wind insurance will help pay for home damages and personal items destroyed within the home due to windstorms, hurricane or tropical storms. You may also get added protection for detached structures like a garage, toolshed or swimming pool.
You should note that if any flooding happens after a windstorm, any flood damage you have will not be covered by wind insurance. You must purchase flood insurance to protect your home from rising waters after windstorms.
Wind insurance will also not cover your vehicle if any debris damages your car. That would be covered under a comprehensive personal auto policy.
Earthquake Insurance Coverage
Earthquake insurance is quite simple. In the event of an earthquake, you can receive payment for damages to your home, personal belongings and living expenses if you are forced from your home.
It does not cover your vehicle or damage to land, and it does not cover fire or flood damage that may come because of an earthquake.
